Nihon Dentô Bujutsu Shintai

Nihon Dentô Bujutsu Shintai ・The essence of the traditional japanese martial arts

Osano Jun, martial artist and reseacher, published this book in 1989 on the classical martial arts. It contains many photographs, also from older books and scrolls. In his book Osano covers the following aspects of koryu bujutsu:

  • History of the classical martial arts
  • Jûjutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Shibukawa Ichi ryû, Asayama Ichiden ryû, Yôshin ryû, etc.)
  • Kenjutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage ryû, Rikishin ryû, Yamamoto Muhen ryû, etc.)
  • Bôjutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Rikishin ryû, Kukamishin ryû, etc.)
  • Iaijutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Kageyama ryû, Rikishin ryû, etc.)
  • Naginatajutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Anazawa ryû)
  • Jôjutsu ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Kukamishin ryû, Yamamoto Muhen ryû, etc.)
  • Jittejutsu, Kusarigama ( incl. descriptions of techniques of Yamamoto Muhen ryû, etc.)
  • Several other chapters featuring other aspects of koryu bujutsu (densho, soke, enbu, hanko) and registers of schools practiced in Japan.

Personally I like this book because it mainly covers schools which are not that famous (anymore) in Japan such as Anazawa ryû or Rikishin ryû.
